Honoring Dr. Seuss

"You have  brains in your head.  You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  You're on your own.  And you know what you know.  And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..."
  --Dr. Seuss

I have always been a fan of Dr. Seuss.  Some of the reason that I have liked him has to do with the fact that his seemingly non-sensical poetry has such deep meaning.  Another reason is that his writing can be enjoyed by people of all ages.  My kids have always loved his work and they have learned some great lessons along the way.  I used to read "Baby, oh Baby, The Places You'll Go" to my kids before they were born.

I believe wholeheartedly in the above poem.  I believe that each of us has been equipped with the ability to employe our own reasources.  I do believe that some people have let go of the fact they are responsible for themselves. When they happens, people will look to others to blame for their own shortcomings.  We have been given the opportunity to steer ourselves in any direction that we choose.  Should we choose to steer ourselves toward mediocrity, that is our choice.  Should we choose to steer ourselves toward greatness, that is our choice as well.

Regardless of the direction that we choose, we must remember that we are ultimately on our own when it comes to deciding what we will offer this world. We are responsible for learning whatever it is we need to know in order to succeed in life.  If we choose not to go learn it, practice it, sacrifice for it, and master, well... that is our choice.  I know that I am the only Me that I have.  I am the only one who gets to determine my destiny.

And, I know that you are the only YOU that gets to choose for you.  So the question is... What will you choose?

Man oh man, the places you'll go, the work you will do, the things you will know.
The choices you make will determine your fate.  With the right ones, you can become great.
You live your life in the way that is right, and lay your head down to sleep peacefully at night.
The chances you take will determine your fate, and the behaviors you show is how others will know.
No matter the choice, no matter the path, You are you and that's all you have.
So make the most of each opportune day for in 24 hours they have gone by the way.
You are a winner, this much is true, as long as you stay faithful to Y.O.U.!

Written by Jody Holland in honor of Dr. Seuss and a great life lived!
